Little Houses, always on a hill
From a young age, Jackie developed a passion for colours and pretty things. Spending summers drawing and studying wildflowers, collecting stones and shells, mixing and matching paint colours and drawing little houses, always on a hill with a tree or two. Many years were spent learning to sew, making and designing clothes which then lead to stitching and simple quilting.
Jackie’s first job was drawing maps and ‘old school’ draughting, mostly a lost skill these days! Night classes were taken in sign writing, drawing and photography. Eventually she was drawn to Resene, working with colours and helping others with their homes.
Sharing the simple pleasures
Gradually a range of hand crafted houses evolved and Jackie soon found it was hard to keep up with the demand. Trips to Italy, France and Portugal inspired a European flavour to the designs and also a love of soft time worn colours and patinas.
Jackie’s daughters have also inspired her; Alex has a natural flair for colour and putting all sorts of vintage finds together in a bespoke way and Sammy has become a very talented Graphic Designer often helping and giving valuable advice.
The best part of all this passion and experience is sharing it with others, whether it’s helping to create a beautiful interior for someone or sharing practical skills with a small group of like minded people. It’s about the simple pleasures and sharing, always good for the soul!
